Certified translations for USCIS

Understand USCIS translation requirements, the translator’s certification and how to prepare Vietnamese documents for your immigration application.

USCIS translation requirements

Foreign-language documents submitted to USCIS need a full English translation. The translator must certify that it is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate into English. Check the instructions for your specific form as well.

Read the official rule: 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)

A complete translation

A complete translation covers readable text, annotations, and stamps. Names, dates, and reference numbers should be consistent and easy to check against the source.

The translator’s certification

The certification addresses the completeness and accuracy of the translation and the translator’s language competence. A signed statement identifies who is responsible for the translation.

Check the receiving institution’s requirements

Before ordering, check the receiving institution’s requirements for language, certification, originals, and notarization. Certified translation and notarized translation are different requirements.
